We are delighted to share insights from a recent study entitled "The adaptor protein SKT interacts with PSD-95 and SHANK3 and affects synaptic functions" published in Cell Reports by Alessandro Morellato et al.

They identified the adaptor protein SKT as a crucial component of the postsynaptic density (PSD) network, interacting directly with PSD-95 and SHANK3. Their research reveals that the absence of SKT leads to significant defects in dendritic spine formation, morphology, and maturation, resulting in reduced excitatory synaptic transmission. These findings underscore the vital role of SKT in synapse function and maturation, providing new avenues for understanding neurological disorders like autism spectrum disorders and cognitive impairment.

Congratulations to all authors for this great article.

Our NeuroMag transfection reagent was used to effectively deliver plasmids expressing GFP-tagged SKT into SKT-KO primary neurons for rescue experiments, successfully restoring dendritic spine density and mushroom morphology. This highlights the reagent's capability for efficient genetic modification in sensitive neuronal cultures.
