We are delighted to share insights from a recent study entitled "Schizophrenia-associated glycoprotein Adamtsl3 regulates perineuronal net formation, maintenance, and adult cortical plasticity" published in Molecular Psychiatry by Teresa M. L. Cramer et al.
Congratulations to all authors for this great article.
They identified Adamtsl3 as a crucial regulator of perineuronal nets (PNNs), which are specialized structures that protect neurons and stabilize brain circuits. The team demonstrated that Adamtsl3 acts as an extracellular inhibitor of MMP9 activity, and its absence leads to PNN degradation and the reactivation of juvenile-like plasticity in the adult brain.
CombiMag was used to achieve high-efficiency magnetofection in primary rat hippocampal neurons. This technology enabled the researchers to precisely study protein co-localization and biochemical interactions in vitro, supporting their discovery of how Adamtsl3 maintains the integrity of the neuronal extracellular matrix.
