We're delighted to share insights from a recent study entitled "Role of Cell Surface Receptors in Palmitic Acid-Induced Expression of IL-1β in Microglial Cells" published in Lipidology by Viren Jadeja et al.
Congratulations to all the authors on this excellent article!
They explored how palmitic acid, a saturated fatty acid common in obesity, triggers neuroinflammation. Their research identifies TLR-2, TLR-4, and GPR40 as key cell surface receptors that mediate the inflammatory response in microglial cells, providing a potential molecular link between metabolic syndrome and neurological conditions.
Glial-Mag was used to achieve high-efficiency siRNA transfection in BV2 microglial cells. This allowed the researchers to effectively knock down specific receptors and demonstrate their critical roles in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
