We're delighted to share insights from a recent study entitled "Muscle contribution in lipid nanoparticle mediated mRNA vaccine delivery and efficacy" published in Journal of Controlled Release by Mathieu Repellin et al.
They demonstrated that muscle cells are not just passive recipients but vital antigen-producing reservoirs that drive robust adaptive immunity. By utilizing a specialized lipid-polymer hybrid nanosystem, the researchers achieved high transfection efficiency in myofibers, leading to potent humoral and cellular immune responses while maintaining a safe, localized distribution.

mRNAs (encoding eGFP, Cre, and OVA) were used to track delivery pathways, evaluate muscle cell transfection, and confirm the induction of successful immunization.
